Geoffrey Rock 1923-2000
Geoffrey Rock was born in 1923 in Birmingham, England and attended the Birmingham College of Art. He won a scholarship for two years there because of his exceptional talent. Later he studied at the London Central School of Art. He was inspired by the perfectionist painters of the Dutch and Flemich schools, and influenced by the great realist painters of our time.
One of Rock's paintings was chosen to be reproduced for Queen Elizabeth's annual Christmas card in 1954. He married his elegant Welsh born wife Joan, and arrived in Canada in 1956.
He was blessed with the ability to paint with such accurate realism. By his own admission, he became fixed on the subject matter with such intensity, the result was most intimate.
Rock's work has been exhibited all across Canada, including several special exhibitions at the Winchester and Victoria Art Galleries.
