Description

Romance & Adventure in early 19th Century Pacific Northwest

In Book One of the Victoria Chronicles, Nancy Wilson arrives in Victoria, BC in 1900 to find she has many unforeseen difficulties to surmount. At eleven years of age she is sent to work in a local restaurant and at fifteen she witnesses the horrific fire that wipes out much of the business area.

Take a journey back in time as Whittle weaves yet another fascinating tale of an earlier era through the eyes of a new and memorable female character. This time choosing the Pacific Northwest as his setting, the story features actual whaling stations of the early 1900s as the Joyce Brothers and their crew aboard the whaling ship, Belfast, hunts whales on the westcoast of British Columbia and Washington State.

You'll visit pre-WWI Victoria and Seattle where the threat of Prohibition is beginning to disrupt lives. You'll find yourself right alongside Nancy as she discovers her independence and becomes involved in the adventure of a lifetime. Experience events, locations and personalities of the era as streetcars rattle along Victoria streets, the Rogers' family makes chocolates in their grocery store, 'The Gorge' is the favourite swimming hole, and 'The Willows Fairgrounds' in Oak Bay is where you go to watch a horse race.

As a young woman, Nancy soon discovers she is capable of much more than she ever dreamed possible ... even falling in love. Mr. Whittle gives us a touching love story as only he is able - in total good taste.

Book Two, the conclusion of the Victoria Chronicles, finds Nancy and Dan facing the threat of war and how they will deal with their new business if Dan goes overseas. Lizzie's 'fame' spreads to Seattle bringing an interesting twist to their lives ... and to the story!
