Scenic drives in VICTORIA ... Steve Fonyo Beach



Steve Fonyo Beach

"Journey for Lives." In commemoration of Steve Fonyo's run across Canada to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, for cancer education, patient care and research.

His "Journey for Lives" covered nearly 8000 kilometers starting at St. John's Newfoundland, March 31st, 1984 and was competed here (Victoria, B.C.), May 29th, 1985 - (Transcribed from monument) - Province of British Columbia.

This cairn commemorates the feat of Miss Marilyn Bell who landed in this bay August 23rd, 1956, to become the first woman and first Canadian to swim Juan De Fuca Strait from Port Angeles, U.S.A., to Victoria, Canada.
