Scenic drives in VICTORIA ... James Bay Inn

James Bay Inn

Historic JAMES BAY INN is the third oldest hotel in Victoria, preceded only by the Dominion Hotel and the Empress Hotel. It was opened in 1911 and has operated continuously as a hotel with only a brief interlude during the war years.

From 1942 - 1945 the hotel was purchased by Mother Cecilia's religious order and operated as St. Mary's Priory. It was during this period that the hotel welcomed its most famous guest. Famous Canadian artist and author Emily Carr (b. December 13, 1871) was a patient at the Priory until her final illness took her March 2, 1945. It is rumored that Emily would paint on the third floor landing of the hotel, and staff have been known to talk to the ghost of Emily Carr.

The hotel has an on-site cafe/restaurant and pub. The Colonial Cafe is a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The JBI pub has the same food as the Colonial Cafe and is open from 11am to 1 am. The JBI pub also features the ONLY Saturday afternoon Blues Jam in Victoria and is where the Bucca Kings and Carolyn Neopole play music regularly.

Breakfast starts early. Start with juice, coffee, bacon and eggs, french toast, eggs benny and more!

Dinner starts at 4:30 with a varied menu from New York steaks, lamb chops and roast beef to chicken cordon blue, vegetable ratatoille and fish entrees that include sole, salmon and Oysters Rockafellar.

They are located at 270 Government St. Victoria B.C., Canada, V8V 2L2 Tel: (250) 384-7151 Toll Free: 1-800-836-2649 Fax: (250) 385-2311

Please visit their web site for more information about hotel rates and reservations at the James Bay Inn.
