More Cooper Air

Editorial by Goldie Summers

Take a seaplane adventure tour of the Victoria area! What a great way to spend part of your day while visiting Victoria, British Columbia. Cooper Air has an easy location and is within view of the Parliament Buildings and whale watching tours!

Cooper Air offers a seaplane charter service throughout Coastal British Columbia, Vancouver Island and Northern Washington State. Cooper Air operates a fleet of five DeHavilland and Cessna seaplane aircraft.

First, have lunch at the Black Fish Café which shares its moorage with Cooper Air at the Marine Adventure Centre. Wonderful lunch, friendly service, perfect before a 1.5 hour flight.

Start a journey on the DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver which carries 6 passengers plus the pilot. You will meet the other passengers before boarding and enjoy a pleasant conversation new friends. Sky view from seaplane The day was a cloudy, breezy day, and instead of traveling over the Olympic Moutains (which I hear is a breathtaking tour) our group agreed with the advice of the pilot, to take a safer journey over the San Juan islands and Friday Harbour.

We were all given safety instructions before take-off which made everyone feel very safe and secure, including the folks who were nervous about air flight!

The engines began to roar and we started picking up speed. Soon we were up in the sky looking out over the cruise ships and hotels below us.

It was a wonderful trip where we saw whales, seals and sea lions and a few bald eagles. My favourite part was looking at Butchart Gardens from the sky…..much smaller that you would imagine from up there.

It was a great adventure, the best way to really experience our rugged coastline and the breathtaking natural beauty of British Columbia.

SPECIAL NOTE: Don't bring too many bags with you and bring a camera to take many pictures, as you will feel the need to experience this flight again and again.
